Great news for the New Year! Now open again: Marine Park Outreach and Education Centre at the St John's Island National Marine Laboratory. It was closed due to asbestos being found on St John's Island. More about how to get there, and what you can see and do at the Centre here.
As the year ended, volunteers conducted more awesome intertidal walks, divers explored the reefs, a massive artificial reef structure was deployed at the Marine Park and the Friends of the Marine Park met on the islands.

Amazing April at the Sisters Islands Marine Park
Another awesome month of outreach by the volunteers of the Sisters Islands Marine Park.
Together with NParks staff, they conducted public walks and did outreach during ADEX, the dive expo. They also helped to document the annual mass coral spawning that happens every April. And the Marine Park was featured in an article about the history of Singapore's reefs by Marcus Ng.

2015 ended with a special whale of a find at the Marine Park! Also, the last intertidal walks for the next three months as the pontoons are being maintained until Apr 2016. While spectacular dives continue underwater!
Meanwhile, it was a relief that the Marine Park was not affected when a freighter sank in the area in December.

September happenings at the 'Mother Reef'
"The Sisters' Islands, home to Singapore's first marine park, are also Singapore's "mother reef" of sorts, researchers have found. The waters around the two islands are the likely source of the country's impressive coral diversity, thanks to currents which can pull coral larvae in to take root there."
Thanks to Chiang Ai-Lien for featuring the work by researchers in The Straits Times. Volunteers were also busy in September helping out at public intertidal walks and trial dives.

Joyful June at the Sisters Islands Marine Park, with a tinge of sadness
It has been a busy joyful June! New dive trails at the Sisters Islands Marine Park were announced at the Festival of Biodiversity last weekend!
Lots of happy families visited during the June school holidays for the public walks at the Park. Alas, this is tinged with sadness. We are heartbroken that the Giant clam on the public walk trail has died.
